Grape Stomping

An authentic experience that brings the Marche rural tradition and the ancient harvest rituals back to life.

The grapes, freshly picked from the vines, are poured into a large vat for the traditional grape stomping. Participants, after washing their feet with flower-scented water, enter the vat in turns and begin treading to the rhythm of the folk music that once accompanied these moments of celebration and sharing.

The resulting must is then transferred to a copper caldron placed over a traditional oven, where it begins to simmer to create ‘Vino Cotto’ (literally ‘cooked wine’). This nectar is an ancient tradition dating back to Roman times. Throughout the experience, you will learn about the history of this practice and the local winemaking culture.

The day continues with a convivial banquet inspired by ancient grape harvest recipes, followed by music and folk dances: the local folk group will invite guests to join in traditional dances, including the famous ‘Saltarello’ from the Marche region.
